Your name?
Sandy Moore
Your Location (city, etc)
Burlington
Please give us a short summary of your website?
I have been painting for many years and really enjoy portrait painting and drawing. I work from a few quality photographs and work in either watercolour or a detailed pencil drawing. I've been told I have an ability to capture the essence of my subjects. During a commission I will consult with you a couple of times to make sure you are fully satisfied with the outcome, or your money back.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The internet is 'key' to marketing a business these days. I know how more I'm using it than I used to. Having the ability to view an artists work takes away the uncertainty and knowing that their work comes with a satisfaction guarantee adds to the confidence of the buyer. With a website, an artist, and the client for that matter, isn't limited by geographic location.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in 1999 and it was called, Paintingsbysandy.com. It was a beautiful website also offering watercolour and detailed pencil portraits. However, I didn't understand then, how important it was to be 'linked' to other businesses or SEO. My website was out in cyberspace and I wasn't getting many hits to it.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted it to be clear and to the point. Sandy Moore - Portrait Artist. Can't get clearer than that!
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
I think the artwork must speak for itself. Its great that people have the range of styles and talent to choose from. An original piece of artwork is very personal and should really 'speak' to that client. paintingportraits.ca, offers examples of my individual style in original artwork that has not been copied or computer generated.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or r mainstream media deal?)
My intention is to offer commission artwork for sale.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I really feel investing in a good website and making sure that people know it's there, is money well spent.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would probably look at a more comprehensive search engine optimization package.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Well, I'm not sure but it would be a challenge I'd like to have!
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
I've been pretty good so far with a minimal budget. I know that I'll need to spend some money now on SEO but that's okay. I've been in business before, so I think I've learnt a few things!
What has been your biggest challenge?
Developing a website is time consuming!
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I'm really just getting started but I think that linking with other websites is going to help.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
It's hard to know at this point but I'm expecting that I will have to take a more active role in makeing sure it's a success.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
We just finished getting all the pages up 3 days ago. There is no question in my mind that having this website will contribute to my success. I know it doesn't happen overnight, so I will review things in 3mths and again in 6mths to make sure I'm on the right track.
