Masvingo Interview

By Interviewer at 02/13/09 11:44

Africa, Art:

Name of your website?

Masvingo

Your name?

Doug Dicker

Your Location (city, etc)

Harare

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Masvingo Sculptures is the largest exporter of quality hand carved sculptures based in Zimbabwe.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

The sculptures are under threat due to the poor economic times in Zimbabwe. The more we can sell, the more we help to ensure it's longevity.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The Masvingo website was launched in approx 2002.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Our first container of sculptures were mostly produced near the rural town of Masvingo.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

Profit range. Pure and simple.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To have clients or joint venture partners in all continents.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

In the beginning we had a large learning hill to climb, but we are there now. On top.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I wouldnt change our approach to business. Just more of it.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

We have adapted to high demands before, and will do so again.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Zimbabwe!!!!! Red tape and corruption.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Red tape and corruption.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Google ads and referals.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I dont have anyone to compare, so it's a difficult question to answer.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Running since 2002 and will keep it as long as we are in this business.

Replace this with a question of your own

How can you promote me more effectively?

What is your website address?

Masvingo
