Hauns' Blog Interview

Wyoming, Plein Air Painting: Artist Hauns Schnackenberg

Name of your website?

Hauns' Blog

Your name?

Hauns Schnackenberg

Your Location (city, etc)

Cody

Please give us a short summary of your website?

A new blog to complement my website. The blog includes a gallery of my plein air paintings, pictures of some of my favorite paintings and other topics as well. I mostly paint landscapes, the mountains being my favorite subject matter.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I wanted to share my work with a greater audience. And... I actually enjoy working with this stuff.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

In 2006 I launched HaunsFineArt.com - my main website with a gallery of my paintings for sale and a fair amount of other material.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

My name has a unique spelling, and I wanted to keep it simple and to the point. The website is a slice of my life - of which art is a big part - hence the name: Hauns' Blog.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

I have a unique 'fingerprint' on my paintings, my own style, a fairly focused subject matter - mostly dealing with the Beartooth Mountains near my home. If you like the Rocky Mountains, take a look.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My first goal is really to get the material on my blog out there, to hopefully encourage as many people as possible. It would be great though, to sell some paintings.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

I get what I pay for - a cliche for a reason.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes, I think so.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

I am relatively new to web design and construction, marketing, etc..., so there's always unexpected things for me to learn.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Finding quiet time to get a lot of work done (my wife and I have an 18 month old and are getting ready for another in May).

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Not sure yet.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

My blog is very new; I created it a couple weeks ago. But since I use it as a journal/archive as well, I imagine I will continue to keep it up indefinitely.

What is your website address?
