Prim Crow Studio Candles N' Such Interview

By Interviewer at 01/13/09 11:03

Name of your website?

Prim Crow Studio Candles N' Such

Your name?

Jodi English

Your Location (city, etc)

Mifflinville

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We are loaded with handmade wares made to look time-worn and well-loved. Our website is loaded with our primitive candles, flameless candles, wax tart melts, dolls, ornies, body lotion with Vitamin E, Goat's Milk & Shea Butter soaps with Vitamin E and shower favor do-it-yourself kits!

What inspired you to launch your own website?

I was tired of paying high prices for candles that didn't smell or burn properly and it was annoying to see the mass-produced primitive dolls in every store that are brought in from other countries. Since I've been a crafter all my life I decided to make my own. Right now our economy needs help and purchasing from Prim Crow Studio helps the local economy.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Prim Crow Studio has a ring to it! It rolls right off your tongue! Don't ya think!

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

All of our goods are handmade in Mifflinville Pennsylvania one-at-a-time just like they use to. Each piece has its own story.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

I would love to open a retail store with my items, as well as, other local artists and crafters.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

Making all the goods by hand, along with website programming, filling orders and purchasing supplies a business like mine is extremely time consuming, as well as, money consuming. I feel that with lots of research and tons of persistence anyone can become successful.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

I would advertise, advertise, advertise!

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

It would be very stressful, but I would most definately welcome it!

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

Ordering supplies and dealing with suppliers, especially the greedy ones. I think that's why I bend over backwards for my customers. I always treat them the way I would want to be treated.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Money!

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Word of Mouth...however I would really love to purchase more higher-priced ads in magazines and newspapers!

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I expected to get tons of orders overnight and I thought the programming would take less time! On the contrary, it has taken tons of sweat and tears to get the word out about our products and many, many, many hours of HTML!

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

Prim Crow Studio the website has been running for over 2 years now and I would love to keep going. My sales are up this year, but if it becomes a financial hardship, I'll give it 2 more years. I think 2009 will be a good year for us webbies though!

What inspires you to create primitive dolls?

I love old things from antiques to old dollies. My primitive handmade dolls are named after the influential people and beloved pets in my life. They have their own personal stories and histories, just like the real ones. Imagine if you will that since my dolls are named after such important people and animals in my life, that I take great care in each and every detail that goes into them! Thank you for your time! Blessings, Jodi English Prim Crow Studio
