Gerald King's Atelier Royal Interview

By Interviewer at 12/06/07 00:43

Name of your website?

Gerald King's Atelier Royal

Your name?

Gerald King

Your Location (city, etc)

Riverdale, Maryland 20737

Please give us a short summary of your website?

This site is the on-line fine art studio of artist, Gerald King. It is filled with images of his paintings, drawings, and copies of the Old Masters. He is a contemporary realist and his work is characterized by accurate drawing and strong contrasts of value (chiaroscuro) and color. The site includes a “Recent Works,”page, price lists of works for sale, and a “Bulletin” listing recent art activities.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Like most artists, I wanted to show my work to as many people as possible. Never before was there the possibility to show colored images of my work to thousands of people. Though I have not found it to be good for sales, it is an excellent introduction of me as an artist.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I created my first website in 1997. I called it The Atelier Royal. It was basically the same as my present site. It featured my paintings, drawings and copies of the Old Masters.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

My name is Gerald King and I named my studio after my artist father, Royal Westcott King-1888-1948. The name is Gerald King-Atelier Royal.

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

My site is an Autobiography in pictorial form. It shows the career of a realist artist who survived and thrived in the last half of the 20th century. It is not limited to the best works, but includes works of lesser success.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

The goal is to continue adding art until my death. It is my autobiography and I wish it to be a comprehensive portrait of an artist from early years to old age.

What is your website address?
