What inspired you to launch your own website?
My goal is to help artists who, like me, wish to take advantage of the online market.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was my own online art portfolio. I created it in 2005. www.asil-art.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I thought it represented well the mission of my gallery which is to promote Quebec Fine Artists.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My website is clean and contemporary in design focussing on the art itself.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
To sell artwork from the artist my gallery represents.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
So far a virtual gallery like this has only cost me my time.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would probably put the money on marketing and website optimization.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I would grow and evolve with it. So yes I beleive I would be able to keep up.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Transfering from one host to another.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Transfering from one host to another.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Placing ads around the net. Adding my url where I can for free.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I didn't imagine that promoting it would be a constant task.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
It has been 3 Months now for la Galerie Fleur De Lys. The artist on the website can use it as their own online portfolio so that in itself is already rewarding enough to me to keep it up.
