What inspired you to launch your own website?
I want to share my art with the world!
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in 1993. It said "Hello World!" which may not sound impressive but you must realize that no one knew how to do this in those days :) Soon I had a full site with an art gallery and arts articles. It was an exciting time, for sure.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It's my name.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
My art is unique and cannot be found elsewhere. Also I have the Art Bits newsletter for local and world arts news.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
This site is my home where I'll be posting my new works and those of my good friends. It's not for sale and never will be. The site will evolve and become even more useful and beautiful as time passes.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
So far it's all investment and no return beyond the satisfaction of accomplishment :) Seriously, I have just started this venture and look forward to meeting new people who appreciate art from around the world.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Truthfully very little would change at this time. Down the road I hope to add more local services and resources for local artists.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Absolutely.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
My open source ecommerce software took a lot of figuring and tweaking.
What has been your biggest challenge?
It's all a challenge. The technical side of things is the hardest.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I am just beginning so I have no data on that.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
My expectations were fairly consistent with the reality.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
The site is new. It is my personal site and I will always keep it.
What would you like to see happen with your website?
I would like to meet new friends and customers around the world. I would like people to enjoy my work and share in my vision.
