Name of your website?Art by Darla
Your name?
Darla Vaughn Brock
Your Location (city, etc)
Baldwyn
Please give us a short summary of your website?
My website is dedicated to fine art paintings in oil and watercolor. They are mostly of flowers and nature, but I do have some portrait work. I do accept commissions for portraiture.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I would like to become more serious about making a career of my art. Since my children are all grown now, I definitely have more time for art along with my other job. My husband is very supportive, also.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Actually, this is my first website and I launched it in April of 2008.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
My website is pretty self explanatory. it is called Art by Darla. That's my name and that's what I do!
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My specialty is flower painting. Although I am a representational artist, I am not photo realistic. I appreciate other peoples art that is, but I just don't choose to do that sort of work. I do love to photograph nature and flowers, but I prefer for my paintings to look like a painting.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I plan to keep on producing more paintings and adding them to my website. Someday I hope to sell enough art from my website and other sources to make a reasonably good income.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I haven't had the website long enough to know that yet. Naturally, I hope to do well, but I don't forsee making my total income from my website.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would advertise it more.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I would definitely do my best. Even if I had to work 10 to 12 hours a day.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
So far none.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Actually getting the website out there and getting it noticed.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
I haven't tried enough different methods to give an accurate answer to that.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
Setting it up was easier than I expected.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
My website has been published for about a month. I will keep it out there indefinitely. I feel that I should give it at least 5 years to see how it works out, maybe longer.
Do you plan to add more to your website as time goes on?
Yes, I will add art and probably delet some art as I produce more paintings and drawings. I would also like to create a page someday to answer peoples art related questions.
